Overview
In this guide, we will explain the logic behind the stock allocation picking and how the system knows what stock to pick first.
Stock Allocation Picking Logic
Note: Please be advised Location Type priority will override the standard Stock Allocation Picking Logic
When products are in more than one location on the system then the stock allocation picking logic for that product is as follows. However, stock allocation can also be set up using location type priority.
1. If any best-before dates are found: The system will allocate stock based on a FEFO basis (First Expiring - First Out)
2. If no expiry dates are found: The system will look for a default pick location for the product & allocate stock from that location.
3. If no default pick location is found: The system will look for the location with the lowest quantity found (to prevent part empty locations around the warehouse) & allocate from this first.
4. If all locations have the same quantity of stock for that item: The system will allocate stock on a FIFO based (i.e. the location where stock was first booked into - the oldest location allocation first)
Default Pick Locations
If you would like to set default pick locations for products, please see the following guides:
Displaying Default Pick Location for Unassigned (unlocated) Stock
It is possible to still display the default pick location on the despatch note, even if you have booked the stock into an unassigned location. To do this:
1. Click Settings, Customer Account Settings.
2. On the Printing tab, select the Despatch Notes - Show Default Picking Location when stock is in unassigned check box.
Allocate Based On Location Type Priority
If you have turned on the Allocate Based On Location Type Priority toggle within your warehouse settings then system will allocate stock from physical locations first before allocating stock from Unassigned locations.
The toggle can be turned on via Warehouse, Manage Warehouses, and then Edit.
