Compliance - Labels FAQs

Question
Answer

I don’t have Responsible Person, where can I sign up with you for this service?
We would recommend contacting your Business Development Manager, who you had initial contact with when agreeing to our label service. If you need more support on who the best contact would be, we would suggest emailing grow@expandly.com, and the Team will be happy to help
What is a parent SKU?
A Parent SKU is the main product SKU/the main product information associated with the ASIN
What has to go on the label?

The label on your product is where the product information is shown and will display any instructions, ingredients, safety warnings, name of the product, pictures etc.

As part of the label check, we would be looking to review the current product label you have, and would be advising what needs to be added/removed to make the label EU compliant.

Is there a specific label template I need to use?
We do have a basic label template that we would be happy to share, if needed. We would recommend to:
1. Use this template for each product
2. Print and place with the product in the shipping packaging
3. Can be black and white

How do I send you my label?
Please follow the instructions that will be provided, by email, from our On-Boarding Team. On this email, you will be provided with a link to upload your label. Please ensure that each link allows ONE product label to be uploaded.
Please note: we need you to submit the flat 'ready to print' artwork of the label, or packaging of your product, where it has all the information that identifies, describes, and gives instructions of the product
How will I know what category my product is?
The product category will be covered in the label check report. For the most part, the category of the product should be quite obvious to know but if you are unsure, please select 'General' and if the category end ups being different, we will make you aware of this within the report
What do I do if my product has variations?
Nothing! The label check will be based on the parent SKU only, so no need to worry about this. You can apply the advice from the report once the label check is complete, to any of the variants of that particular product (Colour/Size, for example)
Which parts of my labels need to be translated?
Each member state has its own regulation when it comes to the language(s) that need to appear on the packaging. For all countries, the minimum requirements are;
Function of the product, Hazards and Warning, Precautions of use and risks, Nominal content and/or ingredients.

France, Bulgaria, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia require the whole label (including claims) to be translated into their own language.
For more information on Translation Requirements, please click here
I have parts of my label that need to be translated, but I don't know how to do this. Can you help?
Absolutely! We offer translation services here at Expandly, which will help with any translation needs you have for your labels. Please reach our to your Business Development Manager, who you had initial contact with when agreeing to our label service. If you need more support on who the best contact would be, we would suggest emailing grow@expandly.com, and the Team will be happy to help
Can I add multiple languages on one label?

Yes, you can! The design decision is completely up to you - if you would like any examples, we are more than happy to provide some, if needed
Is there a sizing requirement for the text/logos on my label?

All logos have a minimum size requirement of 5mm.

You must print all the mandatory information using a font with a minimum height x-height of 1.2mm.

If the largest surface area of packaging is less than 80cm square, you can use a minimum height x-height of 0.9mm
What is the Triman Logo for and what country requires it?

The Triman Logo & Info-Tri box are required in France only, for recyclable packaging under France’s AGEC law. The Info-Tri box is the sorting instructions, in the form of a bar which is highlighted in yellow (garbage can) or green (glass), depending on the method of disposal.
If you need an example logo, please reach out however one example can be viewed below for reference:

You can also read more about this requirement here
What are the recycling requirements for other countries within the EU (with the exception of Italy and France)
The other member states recycling logos are not yet released. These will be in the future but as these are not yet in circulation, we cannot share with you, so no need to worry about those just yet. We expect the EU will be applying specific labelling requirements for recycling over the coming year, so can assist further with this during your RP on-boarding
Which countries does the label report advise compliance for?

The label report will provide compliance for the UK and countries within the EU
Can I use barcodes on my labels, for customers to scan?
You can! This is a great way of being able to direct your customers to additional products information, in different languages (if applicable), that cannot easily fit onto the label. Once your label review is complete, our compliance manager would be happy to discuss this in more detail
My label is non-compliant, what do I do now?

The report will outline any changes that are needed, to make the label compliant (across the EU and UK). If however you are unsure of what next steps you need to take to achieve this, there will be a link in the report email that you receive, to book in and discuss this further with our Compliance Manager
The label report is stating that the ingredients I have added, aren't allowed. Why is this?
If the ingredients are not compliant, you will need to discuss this further with our Compliance Manager for more information on why this is. Please feel free to book in a call, via the link, which will be available on the Label Report email you have received
What do I do once I have made the changes to make my label compliant?

If the advice provided in the label report has been followed, and all required changes that have been suggested that would make the label compliant, have been made, then this is all that you need to do. Once it is done, you will just need to upload the updated label when completing your RP onboarding (if using Expandly for this service)
I have received the report back. It is saying that the label is compliant, but I need to add the RP address. What is this?
If you have signed up for our RP service, our UK and/or EU RP address will need to be visible on your labels (dependant on the service(s) you have signed up for). Please click here for more information.
Where will my label report be sent to?
This will be sent to the primary contact associated with you account here at Expandly, and to the email address that the label upload request was sent to originally. If you need this to be sent to a different contact, please let us know and we can make sure we update our systems accordingly
I have some questions about my label report. What do I do?
Please book in your consultation call - All questions will be answered during this call.  It is not advised to ask these by email, as most questions will be best explained in person
What will the next steps be, once I have had my Label Report back?
To learn more about the next steps, please click here
How long will it take to get the label report back once I have submitted all of the label upload information to you?
Our standard lead-time for sending label reports back is 10-15 working days. If you have chosen to expedite the label check however, the lead-time will instead be 3-5 working days
I have received the label report back - this is compliant. What do I do now?
It depends. If you have RP with us, please refer back to your onboarding email, which will advise on the next steps as you will now be required to complete the RP application form. If you have not chosen to use Expandly for your RP, the next steps are up to you following the label compliance being provided
