VAT - Why do I need to provide region-specific Amazon Seller Central Screenshots, when applying for VAT?
Overview
In this guide, we will explain the importance of providing Amazon Seller Central Screenshots, for each different region that you are attempting to obtain VAT Numbers in.
Why do I need to provide region-specific Amazon Seller Central Screenshots, when applying for VAT?
When applying for a VAT registration, the Tax Authorities often request Amazon account screenshots (or seller central screenshots) to be submitted alongside the application.
The reason for this is that the authorities need to:
-
Confirm that your business is actively trading (or intending to trade) in the region, via Amazon.
-
Verify your business details (name, address, VAT settings) against the VAT application.
-
Check whether goods are being stored in the region (or within the EU under Amazon FBA), which creates a VAT liability.
-
Prevent fraudulent registrations by ensuring that only genuine sellers apply.
Providing these screenshots helps the Tax Office validate your application more quickly and avoid delays.
What do I do if the region is not set up within Amazon?
- If the region isn’t yet set up in your Amazon account, the tax authorities will usually still expect evidence of trading intent.
- If the DE marketplace isn’t live yet, the authorities just need proof of the seller’s intention and account ownership, not actual sales screenshots.
- In instances where the region is not yet set up, we recommend reaching out to your Amazon Account Manager to discuss this set up, so we can obtain the required screenshots to proceed with your VAT application(s)
